January 21, 2008. Mentor an immigrant while making an impact. Technology & Consulting President, Ms. Eleanor Bulatao, will be helping the Peel Mentoring Program Partnership for Professional Immigrants  (www.thementoringpartnership.com) in developing the pool of volunteer mentors with focused on Information Technology, Engineering and Pharmaceuticals.

Ms. Bulatao has been a volunteer mentor since 2006 and mentored two  professionals who already found work in their respective field in Information Technology. She accepted the task because she believe that “we have an urgent action to solve our economic warnings” and it is imperative to help the immigrants to successfully integrate in the employment market using their fullest potential,  expertise and knowledge.

Volunteer mentors make significant impact and difference in the life of newcomers, the community and Canada as a whole. We need more professional immigrants to help sustain Canada’s economic activity and standard of living. According to the study of RBC in 2005(i), Canada will need an additional 2.75 million workers in the next 20 years over and above Statistics Canada’s long-term population projections and assumptions on fertility, mortality, aging labour population and net immigration rates. It also states that when immigrant workers were as successful in the Canadian workforce as those born in the country, personal incomes would be about $13 billion higher each year than at present. Lastly, help save CAD$3.4 - 4.9 billion per annum, the amount costing the economy on issues of unemployment and underemployment of skilled immigrants (Conference Board of Canada).
